Once upon a time was a creature that was very much like a chicken but wasn't a chicken. It laid a mutated egg and the hatchling became the first chicken. The egg came first - problem solved.

I already know which came first, and so does anyone who was paying attention in 9th grade biology class. Chickens evolved from previous egg-laying animals. Eggs have existed for many millions of years longer than chickens.

When the evolution of the chicken came to the point where they are as we know, at that moment that exact chicken came from an egg for an older evolution. You can't exactly tell the difference between them but it is still that exact point. An egg came first.
