Once upon a time was a creature that was very much like a chicken but wasn't a chicken. It laid a mutated egg and the hatchling became the first chicken. The egg came first - problem solved.

What came first is neither chicken or egg but the proto-chicken which evolved into a chicken which had a chicken period which caused it to lay an egg. Answered with science!!!!
