Once upon a time was a creature that was very much like a chicken but wasn't a chicken. It laid a mutated egg and the hatchling became the first chicken. The egg came first - problem solved.

Well really there is an answer because the egg could have been laid by many things and fir a chicken to be classified as a chicken it has to come from an egg
