you could have also killed the world, think about it, tons of people die from those diseases BUT if you cure it, overpopulation will take effect and effectively kill billions more from starvation and so much bacteria

they were trying to be selfless and did not care if they died, a lot of people have relatives or friends who died from cancer or who have cancer, and do not want anyone else to have to go through what they did. (although, if you cured those, the world would be overpopulated)
