One would have to know the meaning of every word in your language to truly know the language. As I don't know the meaning of every word, I don't "know" the language. As such, no downside.

I know English,Portuguese, spanish and a little of French but honestly I think I would rather watch anime and listen to k-pop without subtitles...and plus I can still understand the other languages, I just can't speak them but I can write them
