But if I press the button I’ll have to relive the pain of losing my favorite character, like, I just started to accept the fact that they’re dead, but now I’ll have to go through that whole painful denial stage all over again, granted I don’t die before two years have passed.

Bringing a character doesnt mean that he/she will like you. Regardless of that i would bring a pokemon trainer wait for him/she to die and take them pokemons.
