If I'm king, that means the palace is protected. If it's protected, no intruders could get in. If they do, guards are near me so they can't kill me. If the guards try to kill me, I'll kill them first. It's self-defence so I won't feel guilty.

Give up leadership and have someone else take over right BEFORE you hit ten years, therefore you wouldnt have ruled a full ten years and you wouldnt get killed by your people.
