Rephrase this: you get to be the rival to the main character of any game. This could be an option available to you, or not. The only thing you lose is an opportunity to not have an opportunity.

rival doesn't necessarily mean bad guy. it just means I'm somehow stronger than them, and super tough to beat in Pokemon, but I don't have to deal with super life threatening bad guys and stuff.
