Actually, if i knew i'd die in a plane crash, but i jump off a bridge the day before instead, i would have effectively prevented dying in a plane crash.

Technically, if that is how you ARE going to die, it means that you wouldn't be able to prevent it anyway, because if you could then it wouldn't be how you are going to die.
