Then I evolve it into a Butterfree and it's awesome. Plus it never it said I couldn't catch anything else, it just seems that it's the only one I had. Like a starter.

Just because my only pokemon in the beginning is metapod doesn't mean that I couldn't raise it to a butterfree and then use it to catch more pokemon. That's the entire premise of being a trainer(In the games at least).
