People! Have you ever heard anyone use the syntax "everything but _____?" That is what is happening here. The author intended to say that you could play any video game for free except (or but or besides) your favorite one. Does that clear anything up?

OH to cleae up the downside confusion, it"s saying "... for free but the one you like the most". The word "but" here means "except for". You can play every game for free except for the one you like the most.
